Dreams of a solar Amazon, one day at a time
DEAR FRIEND OF KARA SOLAR,
The dream of electric river transportation with solar energy has inspired Kara Solar for almost 10 years because we believe it may be one of the keys to saving the planet. That's because roads are one of the principal causes of the massive deforestation and devastating fires occurring here in the Amazon. A transport system powered by locally produced renewable energy could keep roads at bay while propelling local Indigenous economies forward.
We invite you to help make this vision real. Our needs are modest and the upside is huge. $50 buys a voltmeter tool and other electric equipment for an aspiring solar technician, $250 pays for a new flexible solar panel, and $500 finances the travel for six technicians to attend a training.
Our commitment to local capacity building for long-term maintenance of solar infrastructure sets us apart from other initiatives that provide solar to rainforest communities and then leave. You can join this commitment by becoming a sustaining supporter through recurring monthly donations.
Do you know funders or have technical know-how we should know about? Please let us know.
Onward together towards the solar revolution in the Amazon.
Maketai (thank you in Achuar),
Nantu Canelos
Executive Director, Fundación Kara Solar
